Cats like to spend time together through glass more often than in person. In order to keep Messi from running away at the sight of Gerda and provoking her to chase after him, we try to distract them in different ways.
Sour cream came in handy today. #cats #messi #puma #puma #cats

  • It's very interesting how Messi can control himself so well when Sasha commands him to wait for food vs how he can barely control himself when it comes to Gerda. Messi can fight every urge to eat food if Sasha tells him to wait and he's very obedient when it comes to that. Messi fights his natural instinct to eat. But when Gerda is near him he can't help but flee and get riled up. Here, the instinct to dive into a treat took over his instinct to flee from Gerda, but it took some work. Then there's Gerda who is pretty chill about the whole thing. Gerda doesn't really fuss about Messi until he runs and her instinct to chase kicks in. It's a funny dynamic and a pretty interesting study in behavior. If both Sasha and Masha can crack that code, the cats may be able to live in harmony. The cats have definitely come a long way though and it's a testament to how well they have been treated and raised. Fascinating stuff!!

  • Messi finished up his treat or food faster than Gerda. He is a boy alright, I hate to say it but MESSI IS A TYPICAL BOY and MALE! And Gerda-on the contrary-is a TYPICAL GIRL or FEMALE: Very well mannered, with with beautiful/great table manners, taking her time to eat. She is a very gracious and refined young girl, the apple’s of Mom’s eyes as Messi is the apple’s of Dad’s eyes.   • I hope the cats learn to like each other. They are both great individuals. I think the cheetah may be more like a dog, and the puma more like a house cat in temperament. Either one just trying to make a living. 😊
